An Introductory Course

The Fundamentals of the Property Assessment Process in Newfoundland and Labrador

The Municipal Assessment Agency has developed a free online training course to help increase understanding of the property assessment process in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The course is comprised of three core modules, each designed to progressively build your knowledge of how property assessments work in the province.

These training modules are intended for town clerks, municipal staff, elected officials, and members of the public who wish to learn more about property assessments. The course provides information on the following topics:

  • The Assessment Process
  • Assessment Legislation
  • Assessment Appeals
  • How Properties are Assessed

Each module takes approximately 20–30 minutes to complete. At the end of each module, participants will complete a short quiz and must achieve a score of 75% or higher to pass. For the best learning experience, we recommend completing the modules in sequence, as each module builds on concepts introduced in the previous one. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each module successfully completed.

In addition to the three core modules, a fourth module – Client Portal User Guide – is available for municipal staff who access the Municipal Assessment Agency Client Portal. This module provides step-by-step guidance on navigating and using the portal’s features.
